For a while now, I’d been seeing ads everywhere about laser skin tightening, a treatment that promises to tighten skin without surgery. I’d been curious about it and wanted to know how it worked and if you could actually see any results.
Mask acne, or “maskne” comes from the friction and moist environment caused by continuous use of face masks. Since we are all wearing masks because of the pandemic, this has become a pretty irritating problem. Not only are many of us suffering from acne and skin irritation from wearing masks all day, but our skin and bodies are also reacting to the stress of quarantine.
Good News! There are ways to minimize the effects. Here’s what I’ve found out.
Wash Your Face With A Gentle Cleanser
Sweat and oil have nowhere to go under that mask, couple that with the constant friction of the mask rubbing against your face and you’ve got the perfectcombination for breakouts. That’s why it’s super important to keep your face clean. Using a cleanser or facewash that is gentle will protect your face from getting raw or sore. I’ve found a new favourite in Eethos Natural Lemon Shorea facewash. If you haven’t heard of it yet, keep posted. I’ll be trying out the whole Eethos Natural skincare line and will review it in upcoming blogs.
Moisturize
Moisturized skin will help prevent chafing or rashes. Skin that is dry becomes brittle and will shed when agitated. Moisturizing helps reduce the damage.

Wash Your Mask
Wash mask after every use. While you’re wearing it, your mask is getting sweaty and oily, just like your skin. So, treat it like it’s underwear and keep it clean!
Try Wearing Silk Masks
I personally haven’t tried a silk mask yet but many of my friends swear by them. Silk causes the least friction of any fabric, and less friction = less irritation. If you don’t have access to silk, stick to natural fabrics like cotton and avoid anything synthetic like nylon or polyester.
Lighten Up On The Makeup
As I’ve already mentioned, sweat, oil and bacteria are trapped on your skin while wearing a mask.Makeup like foundation can increase acne outbreaks when worn under a mask. If you really want to wear some, consider alternatives such as tinted moisturizer or sunscreen.
Go For A Facial.
This is my favourite! If beauty spas are open in your region, go for a facial.
Tell your esthetician about the problems you’ve been having with your skin so you can get just the right treatment.
